Thrifting, thrifting, and more thrifting
The weather around Portland has been on-off sunny & rainy this week and we are doing what we can to avoid stir-craziness. In the past few days we have walked through several thrift stores, including the grand opening of a new Salvation Army where we spun a wheel for a shopping discount and Sebastian got a balloon! We had a lot of fun going up and down the aisles – the Salvation Army Superstore even has a cafe! – and made out with some great finds.

Liz Claiborne wrap stretch top, $9 (Deseret Industries). I am in love with this shirt! Had to have it. And that is my new thrifting criteria. I usually do well but do occasionally end up with things that I just end up turning around & donating. Pointless! Only buying what I can’t stand to leave on the rack will open up my budget for the stuff I know I really want.
Dr. Scholl’s Tassel Loafers,$4 (Deseret Industries). These were brand new – They still had tape around the tassels. Apparently these are from the 80′s and thus considered vintage. They are really comfy!

Am I the only one who comes home and immediately looks up the details/retail value of my thrift finds? This bag is in pitiful condition (a bit of wear on the outside, and stained lining) but I’m still happy with it: Steven by Steve Madden ‘Contessa – Large’ Calf Hair Satchel in Snow Leopard. This might be my new winter bag. $3 (Deseret Industries).

I adore these cards, which I picked up for just $1.25 (Salvation Army). The copyright dates are from 1968 and there are assorted cards for various occasions. That elephant card on top is probably my favorite, although there are a few “For my wife” humor cards that remind me of Mad Men.

Lastly, this little yellow blazer for Sebastian, $2 (Deseret Industries), complete with an embroidered anchor on the breast. It even looks good with athletic shorts!

Sebastian loves thrifting!

When I moved to Hillsboro I was sad to leave behind my Salvation Army Superstore in Clackamas… come to find out, there is one right down the street from my new house! Haven’t been yet, but can’t wait to check it out. Don’t forget, Mondays everything is 50% off there.
I always used to hit up the Clackamas Deseret. It was great for cheap work clothes.
I haven’t actually figured out my thrift options in the Woodstock area. I’ve never had enough luck on the Hawthorne stretch to make a habit of it.
Thrift shopping in trendy areas is pointless. Have you ever been to Goodwill downtown? Might as well be a Buffalo Exchange. And I have literally found items at Buffalo priced higher secondhand than they retail for brand new.
Great finds! I dig the loafers. They are so Grandma but really cute. The cards are adorable and, honestly, I love anything leopard.
Sebastian’s blazer is too cute! He’s so fancy
I’m dying over the leopard bag, such a steal!
thrifting is awesome. I’ve only been once, but from what i could remember I was so happy finding some really awesome pieces. I think this is something I should do soon for myself, for my birthday. I lovee the bag anything animal print is just the best!
!!!!!
I absolutely adore the leopard Steve Madden bag! Wow, you really lucked out with all of your finds. Sometimes, it’s no easy finding really nice things at thrift shops.
Haha, your son’s smile is priceless and it looks like he’s enjoying his new snazzy blazer.
LOVE LOVE LOVE finding brand new things at the thrift store. And that bag is too cute!
WOW! Awesome deals mama!!!!
Love love EVERYTHING you got! The bag totally rocks! And Sebastian looks like such a DUDE!
I thought of you yesterday when I picked up a NEW Ralph Lauren sweater for BiP for $3 in a table top sale for kids things!
Fabulous finds! Since there are no good thrift stores on Guam, I’m officially living vicariously through you and your deals until we move back to the mainland! Sebastian’s blazer is by far my favorite. Adorable!
Thrifting is about the only way I shop for clothes. I hardly buy any clothes that are brand new, unless they’re from the bargain rack at a store. Most would think I do a lot of online shopping since I have a fashion blog, but no. I much rather shop local than online since I save much more money that way!
Great post, and your son is adorable! I love the blazer. The loafers are also super cute.
You have the cutest little boy in the cutest little outfit!
i was browsing old navy’s site tonight (i love old navy), but i couldn’t bring myself to buy anything- especially not for the kids. the cheapest shirt i found for my daughter was $6- and i knew i could get something similar for less than a buck! thrifting has spoiled me.
I know right?! I am such a cheapskate now that I know what amazing deals are possible!
