Things I Love Thursday

Naked baby time. We’ve been trying to move from elimination communication, which is more parent-led (putting the child on the potty when you notice their cues), and into child-led potty training mode. Sebastian was frequently running to sit on the potty, but could never quite get his diaper off in time, so I thought that keeping him totally pants-less might work out. (I was inspired by Joyful Abode, who has had amazing success gently pottying her daughter.) So far he just pees on the floor whenever I leave the room*, but it has been hilarious to watch him run around naked all day. I took some great photos of him chasing his daddy through the kitchen yesterday, but none are exactly appropriate to post online!
* Another mom and I have theorized that boys don’t mind peeing on the ground as much because it shoots away from them, whereas girls end up peeing on their feet. But maybe I’m just trying to justify the fact that my kid likes to piss on the carpet.
New stroller – We picked up this little Kolcraft Umbrella Stroller from the kids consignment store for $0 cash. (Hooray for store credit! Gotta love making money on things you’d otherwise just donate anyway.) We really needed a new, smaller stroller for quick errands and for riding the bus. Sebastian seems to like this one better than our old stroller (which we are keeping in storage).

This little bamboo plant I got for Seb makes me smile every time I look at it. He loves to help water my little plants, so I bought him his own! I love that he quickly understood that it was his.
Spring! OK, so it snowed here last night, but today was pretty bright and the weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny. In Portland, we get consistently warm weather maybe starting in June, but it’s amazing what just a few hours of sunlight will do for your mood/outlook.

For spring 2012, I have my eye on a pair of glam, fun sunnies like these Olsenboye Oversized Square Sunglasses ($15 at JCP).
Kombucha! I’m working to replace my energy drink habit with bottles of kombucha, which is obviously healthier and around the same cost. We mostly buy Synergy brand kombucha from the grocery store, which is available in lots of fruity flavors. The stuff really does make you feel amazing!
The Big Bang Theory is the latest show that the husband and I obsessively watch together. We’ve started DVR-ing all of the reruns and I even dig Kaley Cuoco, who honestly used to annoy the bejeezus out of me. Love her character! I really love getting into shows with Donny – It’s great to have something to enjoy together at the end of the day.
Bazinga! — Happy Thursday ♥

All of these things, I must agree, are awesome. Bamboo is such a perfect plant for a toddler, since you can’t exactly over water it. Brilliant! I could never think of a way to give Annabelle free reign to water whenever she wants because I worry all of our plants would drown. Problem solved.
Also, love kombucha and love the Big Bang Theory. You have excellent taste, Janine!

I love kombucha! I tried making some but it ended up tasting awful. Definitely a trial and error thing. I’m going to keep trying though. I just know it’ll be SO much cheaper once I can grow one.

I’ve been buying kombucha here and there for awhile but it seemed really expensive… until I considered how much money I spend on other drinks. I definitely want to make my own sometime but it’s just not going to make it to the top of my priorities anytime soon! You should keep trying and BLOG ABOUT IT.

Yeah… My bamboo plant is the only one I haven’t managed to kill. SIGH. My mom has always had amazing gardens and it seems like something I’d be good at, but… No. Just no. I keep trying though! My bamboo is sprouting two new branches now though, so that’s exciting! And the mini bamboo plant was $1 at the Asian market across town, which is awesome. I just stuck it in an old jam jar.

that was a fun post. C just likes to push her potty around and sit her doll on it. She likes having her diaper off but usually ends up peeing in front of the bathroom door.

It’s really pretty easy to make, and you can grow a culture with half a bottle of the Synergy stuff.
