My Birthday -Slash- Mother’s Day Wish List

Totally fitting, my first Mother’s Day as the mom of an outside-baby falls on my birthday! I will be a quarter-century on Sunday, May 8th. I am not one of those girls who is bummed about a birthday – I think it’s fabulous to celebrate yourself once a year even as an adult. I’m not sure what my plans will be yet, if anything, but I do have a wishlist! I made a point of keeping items I want for Baby off of this list – This one day is about me.

I want a mama necklace. I would love something with Sebastian’s name or intial (I’d love if it said Sebastian Donatello) and his birthstone (sapphire). Most “mommy” stuff is super tacky but I think a charm like this is cute and classy. It gets even cuter when you add more kids and start stacking them.

I want a long skinny belt. Or a dozen! Long enough to tie once or twice and wear with just about everything.

Black Grommet TOMS

I want more TOMS. Taking this one from Deborah Ruth – I seriously need more TOMS shoes in my life. My favorite are these Black Grommet TOMS. I also love their wedges and I wouldn’t mind having this TOMS sweatshirt – I’d cut it into a v-neck. I read an article this week about the problem with TOMS being that their “Buy One Give One” (For every pair you buy they give a pair to a child in need) treats a symptom of poverty rather than the cause. While this is true, it is also true that they don’t have to donate anything. I am pretty sure that kids would rather receive shoes than nothing at all.

Canon PowerShot

I want a nice camera. A point-and-shoot, but a good one. I’ve asked around and the top reccs were this Sony Cyber-shot and the Canon PowerShot. (I adore this mint color!) I have no delusions or aspirations of  being a photographer, but I do want higher quality images of my baby and for this blog.

Breastfeeding pinup girl

I want a new tattoo. Or a dozen. I really want a breastfeeding tattoo – perhaps a pinup-style design like the one above – although I might wait until we hit a year of BF first. I have also been thinking about getting characters from The Foot Book (Dr. Seuss) tattooed on my feet and I know that I want a half-sleeve. I also still need “Home” in Korean – My husband beat me to it even though it was my idea! And I need the hot mess of a hollow star on my hip fixed. And I’d love tattoos that cap my shoulders. And and and… I want a lot of ink.

New Hair Obsession

Khloe Kardashian red hair - People's Choice AwardsI am majorly digging on the newly red hair that Khloe Kardashian revealed at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards. She looks so naturally pretty here (in a dress by Alexander McQueen).

I seriously adore Kourtney Kardashian for being such a rad mothering role model and I love Khloe for her big mouth! All of the Kardashians have great style if only Kim would start wearing dresses in the correct size.

I also dig Lamar’s initials on Khloe’s right hand and would love to cop something similar – And how hot is her Judith Leiber clutch.

I would really, really love to try this hair color, but I’m not sure it will work with my skin tone, which is less fair. I also don’t really have the time to sit and have it done, although I’m sure my stylist would be up for the challenge.

Pregnancy Henna!

34 Weeks Pregnant

I had my belly painted with henna on Friday and I’m hoping it lasts as long as possible, maybe even until Sebastian is born. It was her first time applying henna on a belly but it came out amazing – The photos really don’t do it justice.

Traditionally, henna is applied during the third trimester of pregnancy to bring positivity and an easy birth. :)

Chanel Temporary Tattoos

Chanel is coming out with temporary tattoos, and I’m not sure how to feel about it.

As someone with actual, inked tattoos, it’s hard for me not to find fake tattoos a bit offensive. It’s the same way I felt when they put fake ink and piercings on Californication actress Rachel Miner rather than finding an already-tatted actress.  Tattoos come with an undeniable image (especially if that tattoo isn’t on a wrist or lower back), and I would be very irritated if someone assumed the tattoos I put thought and money into were anything but real.

Then again, it’s cool to see body art in the mainstream, and I would love to play with a sheet of high-quality faux ink, if for no reason than to visualize possible real designs.  I kind of love the idea of wrap-around stickers instead of bracelets, and I’d love to go all Kat Von D and ‘ink’ around my face.

I understand that models get paid to be versatile, able to transform any designer’s vision into reality, so for them, pressed or painted on designs are a great option.  For the average fashionista on the street, however, I’d love to see more permanent self-expression.

I do not recommend actually tattooing yourself with logos, Chanel or otherwise, under any circumstance, although at 18 I did toy with the idea of inking myself with the Roxy symbol.

Chanel will be selling temporary tattoos for $75 (for 55 designs on five sheets).  That’s enough to buy you a small real tattoo, one that won’t rub off, but if you aren’t ready to commit, designs will go up on Chanel.com for spring 2010.
