Best Summer Fashion Trends 2010

Summer has always been my favorite season. As far as fashion goes, the trends are rarely as exciting as those of Fall/Winter, but spring’s looks are more likely to be seen and shown off. Once the sun comes out, I find myself making excuses to run errands, thus making dressing up much more fun. Add a slimming tan and the perfect sunglasses (the best accessory by far) and there is nothing better than laid back summer style.

Hot pants are the perfect way to show off a winter’s worth of squats and lunges. Downplay during the day with a boyfriend blazer and flat sandals. Play up at night with decorative tights or by choosing sequined shorts. Obviously a fit lower body is a must for this look, but you can camouflage a little bit of jiggle with control top pantyhose. (Lucky for you, nude shades and lingerie as outerwear were also S/S runway trends.)

Wedges can easily transform a fall outfit into a fresh spring look, especially a pair in a bright color. Easier to walk in than normal heels, wedges are perfect for romping around on sunny streets. These Cynthia Vincent shoes for Target hit stores (and online) April 18th. I love the round studs.

Blazers are always in fashion but take them to a more casual place for spring/summer by pairing whimsically over your beach gear. A blazer that is slightly oversized looks great with rolled up sleeves (wear with hot pants and a t-strap sandal). A fitted blazer looks best well-tailored and hitting right at the waist (wear with shorts and a wedge sandal).

“Florals… for spring. Groundbreaking.”

Florals as a trend make me think of the Devil Wears Prada quote above, but warm weather is the time for flowery dresses, tops, and even boldly printed pants this season. I love this trend as it is so easy to find for cheap – Hit up stores like Target and Old Navy, or take time to flip through the thrift and vintage racks where flowered fabrics love to hide out.
