Christian Louboutin shoes at Bluefly

10-24-2011 ** Categories: Fashion / Tags: ,

I primarily shop secondhand (yes, even for shoes!) but when I buy brand new, I strive for quality. Items don’t have to be a designer brand to hold up but when you buy a big name, you are paying for quality as well as reputation. Bluefly offers brand name products such as Christian Louboutin shoes for hundreds off. Louboutins aren’t within my budget (yet) but they are faves of the Kardashian sisters and were the label chosen for Carrie’s wedding shoe in the first Sex and the City film due to their iconic yet modern status. I would love to have a pair of red-bottomed beauties in my closet someday.

Shoes and bags are ideal items to buy high-end; A great pair of shoes or handbag can elevate a $20 outfit into something amazing. Designer shoes are typically a lot more comfortable than a cheaper pair of heels and will last a long time. Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your shoe as well. Special shoe inserts and reinforcements on the heels give you lots of bang for your buck. If you can only afford one awesome pair of shoes, choose a look that is classy and timeless and take time to research proper shoe care.

Thrifting, thrifting, and more thrifting

10-12-2011 ** Categories: Fashion, Thrifting Journal / Tags: , , , ,

The weather around Portland has been on-off sunny & rainy this week and we are doing what we can to avoid stir-craziness. In the past few days we have walked through several thrift stores, including the grand opening of a new Salvation Army where we spun a wheel for a shopping discount and Sebastian got a balloon! We had a lot of fun going up and down the aisles – the Salvation Army Superstore even has a cafe! – and made out with some great finds.

Thrift haul - Dr. Scholls

Liz Claiborne wrap stretch top, $9 (Deseret Industries). I am in love with this shirt! Had to have it. And that is my new thrifting criteria. I usually do well but do occasionally end up with things that I just end up turning around & donating. Pointless! Only buying what I can’t stand to leave on the rack will open up my budget for the stuff I know I really want.

Dr. Scholl’s Tassel Loafers,$4 (Deseret Industries). These were brand new – They still had tape around the tassels. Apparently these are from the 80′s and thus considered vintage. They are really comfy!

Steven Contessa Snow Leopard bag
Steven Contessa Snow Leopard bag - Inside

Am I the only one who comes home and immediately looks up the details/retail value of my thrift finds? This bag is in pitiful condition (a bit of wear on the outside, and stained lining) but I’m still happy with it: Steven by Steve Madden ‘Contessa – Large’ Calf Hair Satchel in Snow Leopard. This might be my new winter bag. $3 (Deseret Industries).

Tiny Talls vintage cards

I adore these cards, which I picked up for just $1.25 (Salvation Army). The copyright dates are from 1968 and there are assorted cards for various occasions. That elephant card on top is probably my favorite, although there are a few “For my wife” humor cards that remind me of Mad Men.

Lastly, this little yellow blazer for Sebastian, $2 (Deseret Industries), complete with an embroidered anchor on the breast. It even looks good with athletic shorts!

Things I love Thursday – And want now!

Soludos X Opening Ceremony slip-ons

I really wish that we could have a real summer here in Portland. It has been crappy so long that I am already mentally preparing for fall. These slip-on flats from the Soludos X Opening Ceremony collab are ideal for warm summer nights but would probably carry in through September as well. My TOMS have seen better days and I’m sure they’ll be completely dead after a week of camping next month. I destroy a new pair of shoes there every year.

I have am also lusting after pretty much every item from WILDFOX Couture. And I would love to have this Jesus-inspired headband of thorns.

I am really excited for Harajuku Mini, coming to Target in November! Gwen will be offering stylish clothing for little boys, a market that is seriously lacking. I adore the outfits her boys wear and can’t wait to see the line.

Speaking of fall, I am working on ideas for Sebastian’s first birthday in September. I plan to ask for secondhand gifts (with a short list of preferred suggestions), and I’ve been browsing Pinterest for party theme ideas.

Sebastian playing on a xylophone

I am on the hunt for some baby bongo drums as a first birthday present. Sebastian is all about the musical instruments – This week we had a play date with friends and he took to this xylophone. I cannot even describe how happy he was at my friend’s house, playing with us and her toddler in a room of new-to-him toys. Just gleeful. We need to do more play dates.

We are still loving Netflix over here and I am one of the few who is totally fine with their upcoming price jump. As it is now, their service is a steal! We stream Sesame Street in the mornings and I geek out to Raising the Bar (WHY did that go off the air??). This week Donny and I watched all three seasons of Arrested Development. ♥

I am also really loving Google+ and really wish that more of my friends were there! LOVE having circles and being able to follow people without friending them. I pretty much love everything from Google except for Blogspot.

This is a sponsored post but all opinions are my own.

As a busy mom, even fun activities like shopping can be too time-consuming. I can give you a list of things that I would rather do during Sebastian’s nap time than compare prices online. Enter Become. Become lets you compare prices on items all over the web without leaving their site. Their categories include quality clothing, fashion accessories and many others. They even have baby gear! Products show up from department stores, eBay and other sources all on one page.

Papaya Multi Color Sandal

Browsing the site for fashion, these Gianni Bini shoes are one of my favorites. This t-strap style is a mix of trendy and classic and I love the multi-colored detailing and the studs. I would definitely feel like a chic mama pushing the stroller around while wearing these. Gianni Bini also makes gorgeous flats and heels.

Other hot items on Become include Shoshanna Dresses, My Michelle Dresses, and baby items from brands Land of Nod, Under the Nile (♥) and more.

Become also allows you to shop by color palette and offers free shipping.
