Things I Love Thursday

This Indian girl tattoo design by Zach Spurlock is pretty amazing – I would love something like this as a print. I am still really feeling Native American-inspired clothing and accessories, like these Caballero boots from Free People. I am thinking about tattoos a lot lately too. We had been following the show Ink Master, which just finished, and I would really love for Donny & I to get inked for our anniversary in a couple of months.

Most of the shoes in my current collection are proving to be uncomfortable for stomping around town, especially while chasing a toddler. I have my eye out for a great pair of slip-ons and some awesome sneakers for the warmer weather. These Vans by Peter Som would be adorable for spring, and these Jeremy Scott X ADIDAS high-tops (above) are even better – I want a pair for everyone in my family!

This week marked the warmest days of 2012 so far – It was warm enough to hang out at the park! The place was pretty packed but Sebastian took it in stride as the mini-mobs of bigger kids pushed past him. He enjoyed the swing for exactly two pushes before taking a peek down and deciding he’d had enough. The slide was another story – He did this smaller one several times and even gave the big kid slide a go. Whee!
The awesome Portland weather was really the star of the week. We drove around in the sunshine, had our monthly family sushi date, and did a bit of shopping at the Asian supermarket. (Yay for the container of kimchi now in my fridge!)
I also ordered two pairs of denim valued at around $200 total for less than $50 on Zulily, free for me as I only spent store credit. (Thank you to everyone who has signed up and shopped through my affiliate link!) I was stoked to find out that Zulily allows earned credit $$ to cover shipping as well. (You would expect this, but Beyond the Rack makes you pay shipping separately, regardless of how much credit you’ve acquired.) Ordering denim online is always a gamble and I ordered two different sizes. I lost a couple more pounds of baby weight (Am I still allowed to call it that?) this week and am using my new jeans purchase as motivation to keep the momentum going.

Thrifting, thrifting, and more thrifting
The weather around Portland has been on-off sunny & rainy this week and we are doing what we can to avoid stir-craziness. In the past few days we have walked through several thrift stores, including the grand opening of a new Salvation Army where we spun a wheel for a shopping discount and Sebastian got a balloon! We had a lot of fun going up and down the aisles – the Salvation Army Superstore even has a cafe! – and made out with some great finds.

Liz Claiborne wrap stretch top, $9 (Deseret Industries). I am in love with this shirt! Had to have it. And that is my new thrifting criteria. I usually do well but do occasionally end up with things that I just end up turning around & donating. Pointless! Only buying what I can’t stand to leave on the rack will open up my budget for the stuff I know I really want.
Dr. Scholl’s Tassel Loafers,$4 (Deseret Industries). These were brand new – They still had tape around the tassels. Apparently these are from the 80′s and thus considered vintage. They are really comfy!

Am I the only one who comes home and immediately looks up the details/retail value of my thrift finds? This bag is in pitiful condition (a bit of wear on the outside, and stained lining) but I’m still happy with it: Steven by Steve Madden ‘Contessa – Large’ Calf Hair Satchel in Snow Leopard. This might be my new winter bag. $3 (Deseret Industries).

I adore these cards, which I picked up for just $1.25 (Salvation Army). The copyright dates are from 1968 and there are assorted cards for various occasions. That elephant card on top is probably my favorite, although there are a few “For my wife” humor cards that remind me of Mad Men.

Lastly, this little yellow blazer for Sebastian, $2 (Deseret Industries), complete with an embroidered anchor on the breast. It even looks good with athletic shorts!

Things I Love Thursday

I really wish that we could have a real summer here in Portland. It has been crappy so long that I am already mentally preparing for fall. These slip-on flats from the Soludos X Opening Ceremony collab are ideal for warm summer nights but would probably carry in through September as well. My TOMS have seen better days and I’m sure they’ll be completely dead after a week of camping next month. I destroy a new pair of shoes there every year.
I have am also lusting after pretty much every item from WILDFOX Couture. And I would love to have this Jesus-inspired headband of thorns.
I am really excited for Harajuku Mini, coming to Target in November! Gwen will be offering stylish clothing for little boys, a market that is seriously lacking. I adore the outfits her boys wear and can’t wait to see the line.
Speaking of fall, I am working on ideas for Sebastian’s first birthday in September. I plan to ask for secondhand gifts (with a short list of preferred suggestions), and I’ve been browsing Pinterest for party theme ideas.

I am on the hunt for some baby bongo drums as a first birthday present. Sebastian is all about the musical instruments – This week we had a play date with friends and he took to this xylophone. I cannot even describe how happy he was at my friend’s house, playing with us and her toddler in a room of new-to-him toys. Just gleeful. We need to do more play dates.
We are still loving Netflix over here and I am one of the few who is totally fine with their upcoming price jump. As it is now, their service is a steal! We stream Sesame Street in the mornings and I geek out to Raising the Bar (WHY did that go off the air??). This week Donny and I watched all three seasons of Arrested Development. ♥
I am also really loving Google+ and really wish that more of my friends were there! LOVE having circles and being able to follow people without friending them. I pretty much love everything from Google except for Blogspot.

My Birthday -Slash- Mother’s Day Wish List
Totally fitting, my first Mother’s Day as the mom of an outside-baby falls on my birthday! I will be a quarter-century on Sunday, May 8th. I am not one of those girls who is bummed about a birthday – I think it’s fabulous to celebrate yourself once a year even as an adult. I’m not sure what my plans will be yet, if anything, but I do have a wishlist! I made a point of keeping items I want for Baby off of this list – This one day is about me.

OrganicRustCreation, MamaBethBling, Jeneri Jewelry, gomommy.
I want a mama necklace. I would love something with Sebastian’s name or intial (I’d love if it said Sebastian Donatello) and his birthstone (sapphire). Most “mommy” stuff is super tacky but I think a charm like this is cute and classy. It gets even cuter when you add more kids and start stacking them.
I want a long skinny belt. Or a dozen! Long enough to tie once or twice and wear with just about everything.

I want more TOMS. Taking this one from Deborah Ruth – I seriously need more TOMS shoes in my life. My favorite are these Black Grommet TOMS. I also love their wedges and I wouldn’t mind having this TOMS sweatshirt – I’d cut it into a v-neck. I read an article this week about the problem with TOMS being that their “Buy One Give One” (For every pair you buy they give a pair to a child in need) treats a symptom of poverty rather than the cause. While this is true, it is also true that they don’t have to donate anything. I am pretty sure that kids would rather receive shoes than nothing at all.

I want a nice camera. A point-and-shoot, but a good one. I’ve asked around and the top reccs were this Sony Cyber-shot and the Canon PowerShot
. (I adore this mint color!) I have no delusions or aspirations of being a photographer, but I do want higher quality images of my baby and for this blog.

I want a new tattoo. Or a dozen. I really want a breastfeeding tattoo – perhaps a pinup-style design like the one above – although I might wait until we hit a year of BF first. I have also been thinking about getting characters from The Foot Book (Dr. Seuss) tattooed on my feet and I know that I want a half-sleeve. I also still need “Home” in Korean – My husband beat me to it even though it was my idea! And I need the hot mess of a hollow star on my hip fixed. And I’d love tattoos that cap my shoulders. And and and… I want a lot of ink.
Honorable mentions would be a pedicure and a wax. See my Etsy favorites or my Amazon wishlist if you’re thinking seriously about treating me! If you enjoy this blog, you can also consider hitting the donation button in the right sidebar.
