Happy 1st Birthday Mason & Kudos to Kourt

Kourtney Kardashian & Mason DashOn December 14th, little Mason Kardashian turned one year old. This time last year I was somewhere in the process of getting knocked up, and I was newly pregnant when the Mason birth episode aired on E!. I think that every pregnant woman watches at least a few birthing videos and there was no way I would have missed Mason’s birth on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Mason’s birth was beautiful, and it created a bit of a buzz over the (awesome & natural!) way she pulls the baby out and up onto her chest.

I encourage that all mamas-to-be watch Mason Kardashian’s birth video, or the entire Mason birth episode of KUWTK if you can find it. I remember being in awe of Kourtney as she goes to shower and get prettied up for labor after her water breaks although thank god I didn’t take so much time at home during my birthing experience. Her calmness was so different than the typical baby-drama you see in the movies.

Kourtney blogs about her experiences as a mother and touches on hot topics breastfeeding and co-sleeping. Kourtney has said that sleeping with her son strengthens their bond and that she would nurse in public sans cover if she weren’t a celebrity. She has described breastfeeding as “obviously so natural and healthy for both of us”. I adore Kourtney Kardashian!

For more Kardashians, I just love Kourt’s look in the 2010 Kardashian family Christmas photo.

Mom Style Inspiration

I love tracking celeb style, and some of my favorite celebrities to follow are now moms. I love the looks found on these mamas and their littles.

Gwen Stefani Rossdale Kourtney Kardashian & Mason Dash - Parenting Mag

I’m sure a lot of people think a visible bra is a faux pas for moms, but I am drawn to the look – I love it here on Gwen Stefani, and on Kendra as well. I love Kourtney Kardashian‘s cuffed jeans and son Mason in stripes, comfy-casual. (I also adore this photo of Kourtney & Mason from the same shoot.) Not shown here, I’m a big fan of the high messy bun, an easy mom but also high fashion look that Kourt often cops.

Rascal Flatts Joe Don Rooney Baby Nursery

I also had to include this celebrity nursery photo – This is probably the most perfect nursery I’ve ever seen; I’m both jealous and inspired!

Be sure to also check out Parenting‘s list of Celeb Moms Who Breastfeed – I’m a bit infuriated that they wouldn’t let Julie Bowen show a photo of her nursing her twins on The View.

Who are your fave celeb moms?

Kim Kardashian Grossed Out by Public Breastfeeding

06-18-2010 ** Categories: Baby / Tags: , ,

I follow the Kardashians (I’m a huge Khloe fan), but why does Kim have to say such dumb things. I mean, she says a lot of dumb things on Twitter, but I had to post something about this gem from today:

Kim Kardashian Twitter

While I agree that a tabletop diaper change is unappetizing, why is Kim Kardashian taking issue with breasts? Maybe she doesn’t realize that boobs actually exist to feed babies and not just to be accessories in sex tapes. As someone who plans to breastfeed (very likely without a cover), this comment really annoyed me. I don’t think breasts are a big deal, period, but there is especially no  reason a woman needs to cover her baby’s head with an uncomfortable cover just so that Kim Kardashian doesn’t have to see a nip. I wonder what Kim would do/say if someone complained about her sister Kourtney breastfeeding her son Mason.

Edit: Here is a great piece expanding on the topic with awesome illustrations: Kardashian’s Call to Cover Up.

I knew this issue would blow up the moment I saw her tweet, and it certainly has. While she is certainly hypocritical, I would like to point out that I don’t think we should be telling Kim K to cover herself up either (other than to make a point). Telling a woman how much skin to or not to show has been used throughout history as a way to control women and is not OK. Some women are modest. Some, like myself, are not at all. It is no one’s place to tell a woman how much of her body to cover – If you don’t like what you see, don’t look.
