Considering it was still raining on Friday night, I was skeptical of the weather report claiming it would be 70 and sunny for the Rose Festival on Saturday, but it was actually hot outside by noon. Before heading downtown, D and I ran some errands and hit up the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market to mingle, eat breakfast and pick up some produce.
The Lake O Farmers’ Market is like any other farmers’ market in the Portland area but a little bit snobbier, although the staff and vendors are great. Still on my radar for future visits: Lavender lotion and baby sets, turquoise jewelry. Helpful tip: You can pay for food items with Oregon Trail/food stamps.

Around $20 got us organic potatoes, greens, BBQ sauce, and a loaf of Cranberry Spice bread. At the end of the night we picked up steaks and Donny made some potato salad, now chilling in the fridge for tomorrow. Perfect summer food, although it’s already back to raining.

We also picked up a jar of Uncle John’s BBQ sauce. The barbeque and dipping sauce company was started by a family friend. I love anything Hot (it is also available in Original and Smoke flavors) and the jars contain no preservatives.
By the time we headed out I was sweating in my YMI skinnies and had to cool off with a container of Coconut Lemon Saffron sorbet from Fifty Licks. Fucking amaze. Tasted like Thai lemongrass soup in ice cream form.
Rose Festival is always sort of a bust, but it was fun to walk around. We took some snaps in the photo booth and I drank my weight in sugary drinks – mango lemonade, strawberry lemonade, shaved ice. Hopefully a gradual natural tan will work out better than my pregnant tanning bed experience. I was hoping for more shopping vendors and Donny wished there was more interesting/exotic food – Maybe next year!
