ICanHas Brunch Box PDX

This week we were watching one of our favorite networks, the Cooking Channel, when we caught an episode of Foodography on food carts. Assuming (correctly) that Portland would be showcased, we recorded the episode as we began watching. Brunch Box was the first local food truck featured on the show and it caught Donny’s attention. As he began following them on Twitter, they tweeted that they would give a free burger to the first person to post video of their segment online. Donny diligently filmed the spot with his MyTouch smart phone and was the first to upload it.

We visited Brunch Box this morning and chose the OMG! Breakfast Sandwich as our free burger/sandwich. The sandwich contains egg, ham, Spam♥, bacon, and American cheese, and I wish I had another one right now. I highly recommend food carts in general, and the OMG! Sandwich is a great, filling deal at just $5. (They also offer an OMG! Burger with either Angus beef or turkey.) They seemed to be one of the only carts open and serving at 9am (They open at 8 on weekdays) and were super friendly. Breakfast and lunch are both served all day.
The burger showcased in the Brunch Box Foodography spot was the YouCanHasCheeseburger, a burger with two Texas toast grilled cheese sandwiches in place of buns. No surprise this epic cheeseburger made it onto TV.
Vacay in Florence, OR
We’re currently camping near the Oregon coast but I’ve decided to really make the effort to blog more once we get home. My plan once we’re back in Portland is basically to sit around working & waiting to pop out this baby (We’re almost at 34 weeks!) so I figure it’s a good time to hit some writing goals to keep busy. I’m hoping to really grow this blog in the next year, and to turn it into something I would really want to read and follow.
This week we’re tent camping and driving into town for wi-fi, etc – I’m currently at Old Town Coffee, which sells amazing drinks and brats (!), and the boys are at the laundromat. My favorite parts of beach towns are the local seafood and the thrifting. Thus far I bought a $3 pair of Rocket Dog boots to stay warm at the campsite, and Donny’s dad found a Levis pullover in great condition for $1.50.
If you’re in Florence, I recommend their Goodwill as well as Linda’s Thrift Store. In general, thrift shopping on vacation is a great way to get unique souvenirs for cheap – You’re likely to find a variety of tees and sweatshirts from local organizations and sports teams, all with the name of the town you’re visiting screenprinted across the front, and for a tiny fraction of what a boring gift shop t-shirt costs.
Thrift and antique shopping are probably my favorite things to do out of town, and I’m also enjoying campout crafts. I did my very first ever tie dye yesterday and I’m excited to rinse it out and see how my shirt turned out! Tomorrow I’m having a henna design done on my belly. Much excitement!
Moustash Rides By Appointment Only
Donny usually does better than me at thrifting and discount shopping and yesterday was no exception. First we hit up Salvation Army in search of nursery furniture, but came home with this Moustash Rides trucker hat. It cost 99 cents and looked totally grimy but he managed to get it completely clean (One run through the wash + Shark pocket steam cleaner).
I love that my guy is into thrift shopping. Shopping secondhand is eco-friendly, economical, and we love the thrill of the hunt and of course the find! I’m guessing his trucker hat would have sold for $12+ at the mall.
We also shopped Ross, where Donny ousted me as mayor and found this purple tee by Lost ($9). His fixation this summer is t-shirts with hot girls on them.

At least a t-shirt collection is cheaper than sneakers.

LOTD: First BBQ of the Summer
This afternoon we hit up my father-in-law’s house for the first BBQ of the season, and today’s Look of the Day is my husband Donny. He bought this shirt for $10 this winter and had been waiting to wear it – Today was a wonderful 80 degrees, perfect for steak, grilled corn on the cob & shrimp salad.

Donny has an effortless signature style, more often than not capped with his red wayfarer sunnies. The beanie and bright green bracelet in memory of his mother are two more items he is rarely without. I love how this crisp white tee looked in the sun.
