Happy birthday to my lovely husband
Happy 27th birthday to my fabulous husband Donny! Not only is he a wonderful husband and father, Donny is also a big supporter of Alternative Housewife! He proofreads many of my posts and takes the majority of my outfit photos, and he has even been featured on the blog from time to time. He has naturally great style and it goes without saying that he is my best friend. For richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, I am lucky to have this man as my lover and partner. Happy 5 Years! <3
Happy 5 years to my husband Donny and I! We’ve been married for almost two years – April Fools is actually our five year dating anniversary, marked by the first time we exchanged I love yous in a dark theater and a whiskey haze. Life is very different now, and we (obviously) welcomed our first baby in September.
You should care about Donny because he is effortlessly stylish and super supportive of my blogging. You can follow him on Twitter, although he mostly tweets about the Blazers.
I fail at taking arms-length photos of anyone other than myself. Baby Z is never still and therefore usually blurry.
Things I Love Thursday
♥ Revamping my wardrobe. I’m planning to give my style a complete overhaul and I’m feeling so inspired. I basically want to remodel my whole look. I have my eye on a lot of items and may even put together a lookbook for myself before I head out thrift shopping! I want to pick up lots of flannel shirts (I blame the #Portlandia hashtag for putting it in my head) – Oversize quality tops, none of that shit from PacSun. I want plaid button-ups belted over leggings and tucked into boyfriend jeans. I also have an eye out for secondhand/vintage dresses, especially floral prints.
(I also can’t wait to decorate the fuck out of our apartment!)
♥ Baby babbles. Sebastian is such a ‘talker’ this week and makes hilarious John Mayer type faces when trying to form sounds. I am a big talker myself, and more excited about this milestone than walking or any others. Sebastian just turned 5 months old. We are calling him all sorts of nicknames now, some derivatives of his name and some not. Most common are Bug and Bass like Chuck Bass.
♥ Dharma & Greg reruns, which the husband introduced me to. I never watched the show when it was on the air but I watch it now while I breastfeed the babe and do stuff around the house. I find it really funny and easy to relate to. The show has shown a home birth and a hospital birth and as silly as it sounds, has some good marriage lessons!
♥ Kimchi and eggs. Last week it was homemade crepes (a diet on which I lost close to 5 lbs in a week!) and right now I’m into super runny egg topped with kimchi. It is pretty much the perfect meal, with fermentation cutting through the egg. I should really start making my own kimchi…

So Long, Astoria
This weekend we drove a couple miles to Astoria to hang out with Baby Z’s grandparents (my parents). Astoria is like most northern beach towns, pretty but gloomy. Luckily it was an uncharacteristically sunny day for the beach this time of year. Astoria, Oregon was named after American millionaire John Jacob Astor, it’s where The Goonies was filmed, and The Ataris named an album after it.
