Keep your family safe and clean with ecoSTORE USA

01-03-2012 ** Categories: Baby, Health and Beauty, Product Reviews / Tags: ,

My family received the Baby Body Wash and Herbal Fresh Dog Shampoo to review, and we love the both! At just $8.50, the Baby Body Wash is competitively priced against mainstream baby products but much safer. You have probably heard by now about the drama with a popular baby bath care brand… ecoSTORE USA’s products contain no parabens, no dyes, no artifical perfumes, not to mention no formaldehyde, something that was recently found in that popular brand’s formula. ecoSTORE USA discloses all ingredients on their website.ecoSTORE USA Natural Dog Shampoo

With ingredient selection, we take a precautionary approach. This means if there is any doubt about the safety of an ingredient, we find a safer alternative. That is why ecoSTORE USA remains completely transparent to its customers … and competitors … by listing each and every ingredient contained in the products we manufacture.

ecoSTORE USA’s Baby Body Wash smells and works great. We used ours for shampoo as well as body wash and Sebastian’s curls always came out lovely. :)

The Herbal Fresh Shampoo for dogs is fabulous as well. Dogs spend a lot of time licking themselves so it really is important to skip the chemicals! Like their baby items, ecoSTORE USA’s dog products are affordably priced, maybe even cheaper than the more mainstream options. I really love how budget-friendly everything on their site is. I am a firm believer that no one should have to pay extra just to keep their families safe.

Maiden America – Hair Bows for Dogs!

Rufio in Maiden America barrette

I recently received several dog barrettes from Maiden America for Rufio to wear and review. Aside from being pretty, the clips are designed to stay in place even on dogs who don’t tolerate accessories, which includes Ruf. While he doesn’t mind clothing most of the time, anything beyond that he is less than a fan of. (OK, so he is probably less than a fan of clothes too but he’s part chihuahua so he’s forced to deal.)

Despite Rufio’s disdain for glamour, he had very little problem with these barrettes. I was very surprised at how well he sat still for me to clip them in, and once they were in place he seemed to forget about them quickly. Clipping the barrettes into some areas bothered him more than others, but I honestly think he liked having a bow to hold hair out of his eyes.

Handmade Dog BarrettesI had fun choosing a few barrettes to review, and they look better in person than they do on the site. Styles include Carrie Bradshaw style flowers and Swarovski crystals.

Maiden America doggie barrettes are handmade in the Pacific Northwest with non-toxic glues. You can order directly from their website, visit the Maiden American Facebook page, and follow Maiden American on Twitter.

I hooked up with Maiden America doggie hair bows through Business 2 Blogger. Barrettes (including some extras!) were provided to me but I was not otherwise compensated for this review.

“Natural” Dog Food: P&G Purchases Natura

05-06-2010 ** Categories: Uncategorized / Tags: ,

Just because your pet food says “Natural” on the label does not mean you’re buying healthy products or from a company with integrity. On May 5th, the Natura line of pet products was purchased by Proctor & Gamble, the company who owns Iams and Eukanuba.California Natural Pet Food

From P&G’s official press release:

“This acquisition gives us a strong position in the holistic and natural pet food segment.”

I feel like that quote really sums a lot of things up. The word “Natural” is so often just a marketing tool and the “Green” movement has sadly only made it more difficult to distinguish truly natural products.

Definitely read the labels on the dog food you buy, especially if you don’t supplement your pet’s diet with meat and veggies each day. Meat (not by-product) should be the first ingredient and ideally there shouldn’t be any ingredients you don’t recognize. If you can afford it, I definitely recommend making your own dog food.

How-to: Make Your Own Dog Food

01-24-2010 ** Categories: Uncategorized / Tags: ,

When I twittered about cooking meals for my dog recently, Maria inquired about how I make food for Rufio.

I started preparing Ruf his own small meals when I began researching what most dog food is really made of.  There are lots of good reasons to feed homemade dog food, but for me, a large part of it is that I enjoy preparing it!

There is no set recipe for what is served to Rufio. Typically, my husband or I cook up a batch of meat and vegetables in a large pan in the morning. This can be reheated and rationed throughout the day. The mix may be thickened up with rice, pasta, bits of bread, or egg. Meat can be purchased on the cheap a day or two before expiration – Use immediately or separate and freeze in small zip bags for later use. For veggies and other items, I just throw in a bit of whatever I’m making for myself that day.

The most common foods we cook up for Ruf:

  • Ground beef
  • Cheap steak
  • Green beans
  • Egg (chopped up hard boiled, or scrambled in with meat)
  • Small amounts of organic non-fat yogurt
  • Frozen blueberries (as a treat)

It is recommended that meats are cooked, but I routinely feed bits of raw or seared beef and fish. Basically, if I would eat it rare, that’s how I feed it. I always cook chicken and pork thoroughly. As in a human diet, less heat generally results in more nutrients. If you think about what dogs eat in the wild, it is only logical to feed meat and vegetables instead of “dog food”.
