Chanel Temporary Tattoos

Chanel is coming out with temporary tattoos, and I’m not sure how to feel about it.

As someone with actual, inked tattoos, it’s hard for me not to find fake tattoos a bit offensive. It’s the same way I felt when they put fake ink and piercings on Californication actress Rachel Miner rather than finding an already-tatted actress.  Tattoos come with an undeniable image (especially if that tattoo isn’t on a wrist or lower back), and I would be very irritated if someone assumed the tattoos I put thought and money into were anything but real.

Then again, it’s cool to see body art in the mainstream, and I would love to play with a sheet of high-quality faux ink, if for no reason than to visualize possible real designs.  I kind of love the idea of wrap-around stickers instead of bracelets, and I’d love to go all Kat Von D and ‘ink’ around my face.

I understand that models get paid to be versatile, able to transform any designer’s vision into reality, so for them, pressed or painted on designs are a great option.  For the average fashionista on the street, however, I’d love to see more permanent self-expression.

I do not recommend actually tattooing yourself with logos, Chanel or otherwise, under any circumstance, although at 18 I did toy with the idea of inking myself with the Roxy symbol.

Chanel will be selling temporary tattoos for $75 (for 55 designs on five sheets).  That’s enough to buy you a small real tattoo, one that won’t rub off, but if you aren’t ready to commit, designs will go up on Chanel.com for spring 2010.

I have one tattoo now and have thought about getting another one but haven’t made up my mind. I like the idea of “trying one on”. The price seems a bit high though. I would rather pay less and get just a few.

I played with temporary tattoos for most of my childhood and young adulthood. I loved the idea of drawings on my body, but I was young and a bit scared to get a tattoo. I now have 6 permanent tattoos and I hate the thought of temporary tattoos because they don’t mean anything but a look that will wash off sooner than hoped. I agree the logos thing is kind of stupid, I don’t think I would ever want a company name tattooed on my body unless the design was just cool.

actually well yer opinion doesn’t really matter on the logo tats because.
the comps that own the logo’s will pay major add cash to people willing to get a permanent logo tat and thats upfront and royalty checks. i know the java dude gets 10 grand annually for his tat.
on the other subject permanent tats commonly don’t really have any meaning or the meaning is totally different than what the person thinks it is. tats are like gaudy piercings you’ll think it has one meaning till you look it up and find out its a tribute to goatsy

It’s funny that you post this because I was at VS yesterday and they were promoting their new fragrance, Love Rocks, with a scented temporary tattoo. The guy handed me one and said, “You look like a tattoo girl.” And I replied, “Yup, I have three REAL ones.” 75.00 for temporary tattoos is insane. I think it’s stupid to pay that much money for something that’s going to wash off and look grainy and crappy in the process of it coming off of your skin.

At the end of the day, if it is by Chanel then Chanel fans are going to buy into the trend. I bet they will sell out like crazy.

I was never one for fake tattoos. I like the real thing.

yeah that second pic was a faux suicide girl shoot of rachel miner for an episode of californication. actors had fake tats long before the fashion industry bought in.
and 55 fake tats are great compared to a dinky i thought i was so cool in grade school thumb tat.
besides real tats bigger than a pinky go from 400-10,000 and thats the range from a single sleeve to the full yakuza wrap tat 40,000 if you are thinking about travis barker.

    • I have to disagree with that pricing. My small chest piece (approx 2×6 inches) cost me $100 from a good shop. Another small piece on my hip was $60 if I remember correctly. LOL @ those thumb tats; I totally know what you’re talking about!
