DIY Coconut Oil Deodorant
I first came across a DIY deodorant recipe on Bonzai Aphrodite, and it instantly appealed to me. I’ve been eying LUSH natural deodorants and looking out for other natural options, but the do-it-yourself deodorant was something I had to try upon receiving a jar of Tropical Traditions coconut oil to review. I wanted to do this on the spot so we did it as simple as possible, using only three ingredients – baking soda, cornstarch, coconut oil. Ideally the recipe uses antibacterial essential oils but I didn’t have any tea tree oil (my favorite) on hand.
The mixture came out perfectly, and it really works! My favorite things about the DIY deodorant concoction: It doesn’t stain clothing, at all. It rinses off cleanly, even exfoliates, rather than clogging up your razor when you go to shave your underarms.

Tips for application: We didn’t even bother trying to put this in an old deo container – dipping your fingers in works fine. Get a glob between your fingers and move it around until your body heat softens it enough to rub into underarms. The coconut oil is super moisturizing and the stuff just feels amazing. Plus, it’s so awesome knowing no chemicals are seeping into my skin, especially so close to where Baby gets his milkies!
I think that part of the appeal to do-it-yourself beauty is that you aren’t giving in to the corporations selling hygiene products – Damn the man!
