Craft Date: Twig Candle Holder + Beaded Necklaces

Posted on | September 30, 2011 | 8 Comments

Last December I got together with my best friend/neighbor Brittanie to make DIY holiday wreaths. We hot glued and gossiped and vowed to do craft sessions at least once a month from then on out. Nine months later, we finally had a follow-up craft sesh yesterday. Inspired by Pinterest, Brittanie made Halloween luminaries (I’m hoping she’ll post some pics on her blog!) and I created a twig candle holder (inspired by this) and a beaded necklaces (inspired by this).

This little candle holder came out better than I expected and looks really great with a tea candle inside. I think I’ll buy a package of green (prosperity) candles to burn in it. I love this little bit of nature on my desk.

These beads were leftover from a project I hosted for the kids on our camping trip. I actually love how the mixed colors look. I cut up one of the husband’s old t-shirts and the stretch is perfect. I can wear them all together or just a couple at a time, and they are perfect for Sebastian to tug on (instead of my skin!) while nursing.

Hopefully Britt & I can manage to actually get together for regular craft ‘dates’. Maybe we can buy and work through the P.S.– I Made This book.

Those necklaces are awesome, I should do something like that for Sev, he keeps popping himself in the face, or sticking his finger up my nose when he nurses. I think it’s driving us both a little mad.

Love the necklace… I love learning about craft projects I could actually pull off, and even more those that I might be able to do with my kids. Thanks for sharing!

Don’t use a glue gun! I made mine with one… and when I put a candle in, the heat melted the glue and it fell apart! :( So find a type of glue that can withstand some heat.

As for technique, I just used a LOT of glue and pressed the twigs down so that the glue went almost all the way around them. I put them close enough together that you couldn’t tell. — Good luck!
