A quick note regarding ads and sponsored posts
Sponsored/paid blog posts
If you follow this blog in a feed reader, you may have noticed several sponsored posts pop up in a row this week. I was using a plugin to keep paid posts from showing up in the feed, but unfortunately that plugin had an error in its latest version and broke my site for a moment! It was a quick fix but a lot of posts I’d excluded ended up flooding the feed at once. Along with keeping paid posts out of the feed, I do my best to minimize the amount of sponsored posts that show up on the site’s front page at a time.
At this time, sponsored posts keep this site up and running. Some (such as a 5-HTP review I posted recently) are for things I love and have experience with, whereas others are off-topic from what I usually write about on Alternative Housewife. All paid posts are tagged as “sponsored” and usually placed under “Uncategorized.” While the posts may seem random, I will never knowingly post something that is out of line with the values of this blog. I have denied offers to post about products such as Lysol and baby formula in the past and will continue to assess every paid post that is displayed here on a case by case basis.
Looking for sidebar ads!
I would love to do away with the majority of sponsored posts and keep this site running with help from like-minded blogs and businesses instead. I am now running Passionfruit for easy ad placement, or you contact me directly to have your button added to my sidebar at a great rate.
Why does a site need to be sponsored?
Obviously not all blogs have sponsors, but many are funded my advertisers like any other type of media (magazines, newspapers, etc.). For Alternative Housewife, sponsors help pay for the domain name and hosting fees. It also pays for the time necessary to work on the site design and write blog posts (versus spending that time on paying projects for other people).
Hopefully you understand that paid posts are not the primary reason for writing this blog at all, and feel free to just skip on through those bits (unless, of course, they are of interest to you)! Please don’t unfollow just because of the sponsored posts, as those will never become the bulk of this site.
Fertility after 40
I’m a little bit uncomfortable even posting about infertility. Understandably, it is a very sensitive subject for many people. It isn’t something that I have dealt with personally, but I do have friends who have struggled with fertility issues and I’ve seen how frustrating and heartbreaking it can be. Many older women deal with infertility, as lowered quality of eggs and other factors come into play after age 40. The ability to conceive naturally drops dramatically around this time for good reason – There are added risks that go along with becoming pregnant later in life, with most of these pregnancies considered high-risk and monitored carefully. Still, many older women are able to maintain a perfectly healthy pregnancy and deliver a healthy child. My own mother started her family ‘late’, with my younger brother born (perfectly healthy and delivered drug-free!) when she was in her early 40′s. There are definitely pros and cons, as there are with having a baby at any age.
Menopause weight loss
I know firsthand that hormone changes can majorly thwart your attempts at weight loss and keeping weight off. Changes in hormone levels while breastfeeding have made it nearly impossible for me to take off the last twenty pounds of baby weight, despite strictly monitoring calories and being more active now than I’ve ever been in my life. Menopause is another womanly milestone known for crazy hormone fluctuations. When natural estrogen levels drop during menopause, your body looks to other sources of the hormone, one of which is converting calories into fat to help meet your body’s estrogen quota. It is easy to feel ashamed and embarrassed about your failed weight loss efforts – and I personally hate making excuses – but hormones really do have a proven effect on your body’s ability to keep fat off.
Find deals on Levi’s jeans
Levi’s are one of my favorite brands, definitely my favorite brand of jeans. From the low-rise bootcuts I lived in at 18 to the high-waisted skinnies I’m coveting right now, Levis jeans are the epitome of comfort, style and tradition. My husband loves them too, for both their great style and their durability. Whether you spend your days skateboarding or chasing around a toddler, Levi’s denim really holds up and even the oldest styles are still fashionable today.
Levi’s jeans are truly versatile and can be dressed up or down. Vintage Levi’s in good condition continue to go up in value. The oldest and most sought-after Levi’s pieces contain red stitching inside of the inseam, and the oldest Levi’s carry a tag marked “LEvi’s”, with a capital E. Newer styles feature aluminum or copper rivets, while the old style rivets are silver. Older pairs have buttons marked with single digits (2, 5, 6, and W are most popular) whereas newer pairs have buttons labeled 501 or 555.
If you are looking for a timeless pair of denim at a great price, nothing beats Levi’s. Get your Levis coupon code here, shop at a local Levi’s outlet or department store, or take some time to hunt through the racks at Ross or TJ Maxx for a great deal.
