Happy Birthday to Me
My 26th birthday was on Tuesday, and I celebrated early by having my hair done. Sebastian and I spent the weekend with friends, and my sister Natalie, for a pro hair & makeup job as well as a play date. I enjoyed hanging out with my lovelies and chopping off a good amount of hair! I didn’t plan to lose quite so much length but I can’t resist the dramatic when it comes to changing up my look! Plus I know my new cut will look killer as it grows out.
I’ve already received lots of positive feedback on social media, but here are a couple of photos from our hair date day:

Hair before and after. I feel that the shorter length is more flattering at this point on my slow & agonizing post-partum weight loss journey, but that’s another post for another day.

Halfway through my makeup job. Definitely not an everyday look! But it is really fun to look flawless even for one evening. (Even if that evening is just going back home with your husband and toddler.)

My sister & Ginger, while new chocolatey hair color sets.

Who looks older? – My lovely sister “Aunt Nattie” lives about an hour away and we don’t see her often enough. Sebastian adores her and we look at her photo often.

A quick photo before saying goodbye. (Excuse the redeye.) Superman on the left with the mismatched socks is Ginger’s daughter Ophelia. The kiddos are about a year and a half apart.
On my actual birthday day, we had homemade burgers and store-bought red velvet cake. I have to confess, I think that watching Sebastian tear into the cake was my favorite part! Donny also bought me flowers. A simple & perfect day.
If you are in the Portland area and need your hair done, please check out the Devil’s Haircuts Facebook page or contact me directly for help setting up an appointment. Ginger also provides hair and makeup for events. This summer I believe she will be offering waxing and lash extensions as well.

Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

We did our Thanksgiving at my father-in-law’s house yesterday — Here we are posing before heading out. I rocked some Americana for T-day (with a beaded headband as my nod to Pocahontas) and Sebastian kept it casual with an awesome hand-me-down bomber jacket. His arm is up to wave that we were going “bye-bye!”

We dined on an entire pre-made dinner from Safeway. It was surprisingly good and we took home lots of leftovers. As I’m typing this, I’ve already had one late-night snack and Donny picked up a loaf of bread tonight specifically for tomorrow’s turkey sandwiches.
Sebastian ate a bit of everything and especially enjoyed turkey and green beans. That’s whipped cream that Mama dabbed on his nose.
Bas is 14 months old as of the 23rd. He is getting better with utensils and is a fairly tidy eater for the most part. He doesn’t like sticky hands and he wipes his own mouth after meals.
Below are pics from Sebastian’s first Thanksgiving last year. (I cannot wait to get my brown hair back next week!) We breastfed at today’s Thanksgiving a bit as well although solid food was the focus.

Right now I am especially thankful for my beautiful family, 14 months of breastfeeding, pretty eyebrows ♥, our lovely new apartment that truly feels like HOME, my besties Brittanie & Ginger & my new friend Meg, and of course blogging & everyone who follows Alternative Housewife.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my readers from the Fowler family!
Could this be summer?
I cannot believe it is July already. The weather just got warm here and we’re having a blast playing with Sebastian, being outside and even just running errands. Yesterday I let Bass crawl around bottomless in Grandma’s garden and today he splashed around in a fountain at the farmers market. Farmers markets and yard sales are some of my favorite ways to spend a summer day.

Better than yard sales are multi family yard sales. When my husband alerted me that there was a huge sale going on just blocks away, I knew that I had to scope it out. My mom and I stopped by the large spread and took turns playing with Sebastian while the other foraged through tables & racks. We didn’t come out with a ton, but did pretty well for only spending $5!

My mom found these Where the Wild Things Are puppets for Sebastian – Aren’t they perfect? Max’s hood even pulls up and down. As I’ve mentioned before, my mother is the person who taught me to shop secondhand. Literally 50% or more of what Sebastian owns are things my mother found for cheaps.

I found these four tops at $1 each. The striped cardi is by Express and worth more than a couple bucks on its own. I can’t wait to wear the plaid button-up camping next month, even if I do have to fight my husband for it. (It fits us both.)
I am really proud of myself for expanding my style from just neutrals to more patterns and textures lately. A month ago I never would have picked up this hot pink shirt with eyelet detailing. Since my pregnancy I also don’t bother to look at size tags at all. How something is designed to fit is not always the way it will look the best on you. Buying something in an XL can give an outdated cut new life.

Shorts: Maternity shorts (cutoff)
Top: Yard sale $1
Shoes: Thrifted
Wing earrings: Ecolissa
Sunnies: Online shop (no longer in business)
Still on my wishlist for summer are some black wayfarers (I’d love real Ray-Bans!) and cute new skirts & shorts. (My pre-pregnancy bottoms fit in the legs now but not in the hips!) I cannot wait for more luscious yard sales and BBQs. Viva la summer!

Sunnies & necklace ??
Glamourmom tank top
Port Authority button-up
Lauren Conrad jeans
TOMS shoes
Today we drove out to the Lake Oswego Farmers Market to spend time with Zeb’s granddad (my husband’s dad) and check out local food and vendors. One of my faves was fresh-squeezed carrot & orange juice – Bonzai has me inspired to do as much raw and juicing and food as possible; I’m hoping to work up to at least half of my daily diet being raw. We ate omelets, sampled several foods, and came home with a container of Soy Nut Maple Butter and Kelly’s Jelly Habanero Pepper Jelly for snacking. Oh, and I of course grabbed a coffee. Please excuse my lopsided nursing boobs.
