LOTD: Game 6

04-30-2010 ** Categories: Look of the Day, Uncategorized / Tags: ,

Yesterday was Game 6 of first round NBA Playoffs for the Portland Trail Blazers. Since meeting my husband, I’ve gone from knowing zero about the game to being a pretty hardcore Blazer fan, so I was thrilled when my friend Brittanie scored tickets for the 6th Playoff game. Unfortunately the team lost and was eliminated from the series :( , but we did manage to score some autographs and have a great time.

Black & Red High Tops LC Lauren Conrad Collection Jacket

Getting ready for the game was fun in itself. I dyed my hair red the night before and purchased a pair of bright red false eyelashes. Both Brittanie and I wore Blazer jerseys with leggings and Converses – I bought a pair of high-tops with bright red glitter laces. I topped my outfit with a (Brittanie’s) jacket by The LC Collection. I really wish we would have gotten some full-body shots of the two of us.

Despite not winning the game and watching from nosebleed seats, we had an awesome time, capped off by a few autographs and a photo with Nic Batum!

Next goal: Photos with Mike & Mike! See ya next season, Blazers! ♥

despising life is so passe: An image of permanence on body, in mind I have to admit, there is something about temporary tattoos that I find insulting. Maybe it should be flattering, but I would not be happy if someone assumed my ink was faux.

Seventh Generation Natural Baby Kit - Cars, Trucks and Teething Rings

I love Seventh Generation products and that is a lot of swag. Upon reading the giveaway post, you’ll learn that Seventh Gen natural disinfectants work just as well as chemical cleaners, minus the harsh chemicals or smell. She also raves about the diapers’ lack of chemicals, smell, and the fact that they don’t leave Baby’s butt as red as other disposable brands. There is a box of Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent under my sink at the moment and I’ve already added a pack of their diapers to my baby registry. I am definitely a fan of this brand and would love to win the Natural Baby Kit.

The contest is open to anyone and blog author Sarah gives you multiple ways to add extra entries as well. Giveaway runs through May 4, 2010.

Safe Nail Polish During Pregnancy

04-24-2010 ** Categories: Baby / Tags: ,

Pregnancy brings lots of beauty changes, including fingernail changes that can be for better or worse (some women experience more brittle nails, others’ get stronger and shinier). While protecting Baby from dangers is objective number one, you can still (safely!) stay on top of your beauty routine, and that includes your fingers and toes.

When it comes to nail polishes, chemicals you should avoid are formaldehyde, toulene, and dibutyl-pthalate (DBP), as well as acetone in nail polish removers. Most of the danger comes from inhaling fumes during application, and studies have shown that chemicals can even make their way into breast milk.

Safe Nail Polish During Pregnancy: ZoyaBella Sugar has a great list of “three-free” polishes (no formaldehyde, toulene, DBP) which includes some popular drugstore brands as well as the brand I use most often in the salon, China Glaze. Also on the list: newer Sally Hansen polishes and cult fave brand Zoya. If your salon doesn’t carry a brand you like, most are OK with you bringing in your own bottle of polish for your mani/pedi. You should also double check any hardeners and the top coat your manicurist is using, or skip those products altogether. Most research suggests acrylics are probably a bad idea. If you must do fake nails, wear a mask while having them done. Personally, I’d start weaning yourself from acrylics before baby comes – Newborns like to suck on mama’s fingers, plus cleaning baby poop from under your nails will be no fun.

Polished Mama Nail Polish

If  researching individual polishes is too much for you, I suggest Polished Mama, a company specializing in safe nail polish and nail polish remover. They feature non-toxic and odorless polishes and even sell a paraben-free French Manicure kit.

I have no problem with bare fingernails, but pedicures are a must, especially in warm weather. Call me silly, but it’s also important to me that my toes are top notch when I go into labor! Thankfully the beauty industry is making changes to keep us safer, both during pregnancy and in general. As with so many pregnancy taboos, a little research finds some happy wiggle room. :)
