Alternative Housewife

J

I'm Janine, wife to Donny and mama to Sebastian (age 18 months). We live (with our annoying dog) in a simple, cozy apartment in Portland, Oregon, where we are working on building our home and our lives with style. I believe in buying secondhand, in basic and natural products, and in living fabulously on any budget. More about us.

Win & Wear Delicious Agape Peep-toes

Mar 08, 2010 / 1 Comment

I’ve owned Delicious brand heels before and they hold up really well for the affordable price. At just $14 (not including shipping), these Agape Peep-Toe Pumps will fit most budgets, or you can enter to win these shoes from Fashion Fling! I love the subtle animal print and buckle detail. I would wear these pumps with a trendy mint-colored spring polish.

Nail colors shown are Chanel Jade, China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, China Glaze Four Leaf Clover, OPI Nail Polish Hey! Get in Lime.

How would you wear these Agape pumps? And what is your nail color pick for spring 2010?

Protecting Planet Home

Mar 08, 2010 / 2 Comments

I know that this is a commercial (and it’s been airing for awhile now), but the first time I saw this Seventh Generation spot, I found it really inspiring. Keep in mind that just because you say goodbye to toxic chemicals doesn’t mean you can’t have a chic home. Whether your style is earthy or classic, your family can benefit from less chemicals. I am a fan of Seventh Gen and Method brand products, but I still do the majority of my cleaning with vinegar. While I care about the environment, my main motivation for natural cleaning was improving the health of my family and eliminating overpowering chemical smells. Products like Windex leave your house feeling anything but clean.

Unless you live in a hospital, ditch the harsh chems! Germs are not the enemy, people!
