New Years Resolutions
Just because!
- Breastfeed until September 2011! My goal is to breastfeed for a year and/or not ever have my son taste formula. No disrespect to any formula feeding moms – I work from home and feel I have no excuses not to exclusively breastfeed my baby. I am certainly open to breastfeeding beyond a year.
- Operation: Stylish Apartment. I live in a standard suburban apartment, AKA BORING. There is nothing stand-out or quirky about my apartment and it definitely has the tendency to look like college kids live here. I really want to make this space my own as we just signed another year lease and many very well sign on for a third year as well. I am currently pulling inspiration from The New Apartment Book
, which was a Christmas gift this year.
I also have my eye on Pretty Pet-Friendly: Easy Ways to Keep Spot’s Digs Stylish & Spotlessand am on the lookout for interior design books (and blogs!) focused on homes with children.
- Get back into makeup. My makeup kit has been untouched since around the time I got pregnant and that needs to change. I am making the effort to follow makeup tutorial blogs (Leave suggestions in the comments!) and play with makeup on most days.
- Blog more. That isn’t very specific, so… 5 days a week would be ideal. I’m really working on this blog’s niche, trying to balance my interests (baby, beauty, fashion, homemaking, &on&on) into something that appeals to more than just myself!
- Take more photos – I especially want to snap more photos of myself with Sebastian.
- Lose the baby weight, obviously. I typically lose weight via calorie restriction, so slimming down while keeping up the calories for breastfeeding is a challenge. I am making an effort to gravitate towards whole foods, raw when possible, and eliminating breads where I can in favor of more primal fare.
- Have more style! Stop using the fact that I work from home as an excuse for laziness. I can look hot for my husband, dog and baby, and the photo project will help too.
- Spend more time with friends. It’s easy to be an introvert, especially when it’s cold outside, but I never regret late night coffee & dessert and nothing is as good for a marriage as a bit of venting to the bestie.
- Do at least one D-I-Y project each month. Another book on my wishlist: (PS I Made This): I See It. I Like It. I Make It.
- Work harder, smarter, and make more money$$. Mama needs more residual income and big projects, and my mantra yet again is Hustle.

What are your New Years Resolutions for 2011?
Things I Love Thursday
♥ Breastfeeding Breastfeeding was amazing, then really hard, then just exhausting, and now just easy and convenient. It is the easiest way to calm and comfort the baby and an easy excuse to duck into another room for a break. Above: Sebastian feeding at 12 weeks, smiling asleep on the boob.
♥ Apartment Inspiration & Planning Browsing books and blogs like MadeByGirl and talking through ideas for our place. Our townhouse-style apartment needs style and baby-proofing. We are having the carpets cleaned soon and my obsession then will be area rugs to protect high-traffic areas and break up space.
♥ Dr. Seuss and tattoos We frequently read Sebastian The Foot Book and I am considering getting one of the characters tattooed on my foot! If I had more money, I would be pretty covered in ink. I generally think that tattoos for your kids (or other family, including any portraits) are really stupid but I like the idea of something fun and subtle to represent Zeb. (I also want a breastfeeding tattoo if I reach my year goal.) We also received a plush Wocket for Christmas from Aunt Nattie that Baby Z loves to talk to. As we add to Z’s room, I hope to incorporate more Dr. Seuss characters as well as Winnie the Pooh Heffalumps & Woozles.

Although I received product to review, I was not compensated in any other way and my opinions are my own.
I have been using Tropical Traditions coconut oil in all sorts of ways this month. I’ve used it in cookies, in smoothies, to style my baby’s hair, as baby butt cream between diaper changes (it’s safe for cloth diapers), and for the oil cleansing method to wash my face.
