Enjoy Life with Weight Loss Tips

Nov 18, 2009 / 5 Comments

“Have a healthy life & you can enjoy fashion so much more than if you eat too much sugar & cake.” – Karl Lagerfeld

You look best when you’re in shape.  Every woman may not be able to attain a size 2, but garments fit the best on a tight body, and it’s great not to have to worry how your body will look in clothes.  Whether you are trying to stay slender or achieve a model’s silhouette, these tips will help you think thin and fabulous.

Ashley Olsen with StarbucksVisualize yourself skinny. Picture the girl you want to be.  What would she order at the drive-thru window?  If it helps, think about what people think when they watch you eat.  It isn’t just shallow – Making good food choices represents the respect you have for yourself.

Know calorie counts ahead of time. Do a quick Google of your favorite menu items.  If you splurge, eat light at your other meals to budget your calories.  Keep a journal of everything you eat; You’ll think twice about what you put in your mouth if you know you’ll have to put it on paper.

Watch your drinks. Non-diet beverages are often high-cal, even seemingly healthy drinks such as juices.  And of course alcoholic drinks are usually packed with calories.  Plan drinks the same way you plan food, based on your calorie goals.  A glass of white wine is around 100-150 calories.  A shot of vodka is around 80 calories, and can be mixed with diet cola or Lite Cranberry Juice (just 40 calories per glass!)

Invest in exercise you love. Invest mentally, emotionally, and financially.  For me, a gym membership is useless, as I’d rather work out at home in my sweats.  I keep free weights at home and do pilates while watching E!.  If you are a gym rat type, invest in the best and cutest workout clothes.  Buy equipment you’ll be excited to use.

Be scantily clad. At least in your own home.  When you can see exactly where every bite is going to go, you’ll be much more likely to make smart food choices.

Extra help – Products: A tan can make your body look 10 pounds slimmer. L’Oreal Sublime Bronze adds a bit of holiday shimmer – Dilute 1:1 with your regular body lotion to avoid streaks.  Nivea Goodbye Cellulite is one of my current obsessions, and I swear it really does cut down on thigh & booty dimples.

Sunglass Warehouse – Hot & Affordable Sunnies

Nov 03, 2009 / 1 Comment

Sunglass Warehouse - SW Celebrity Sunglasses

Sunglasses are one of my favorite accessories, and if you are lucky enough to still have sunshine where you live, consider ordering a pair from Sunglass Warehouse.  I recently received a pair of sunnies from their website – the SW Celebrity Sunglasses – and they are remarkably sturdy for their price.  In my opinion, it makes more sense to purchase affordable sunnies.  Style trends are always changing, and $200 sunglasses won’t do you any good if you forget them by the pool.

The Sunglass Warehouse website has tons of trendy styles, from oversize frames to hip aviators – they even have round sunglasses.  With prices that allow you to pick a few pairs, you’ll have an arsenal of sunnies to mix and match with all of your outfits and hide out from the paparazzi.

LOTD: Celebrity Sunglasses

Oct 19, 2009 / 6 Comments

On Saturday we picked up food from our latest grub obsession, Thai Fresh.  The weather was perfect – slightly chilly, but sunny, and I finally had an excuse to rock my SW Celebrity Sunglasses.  Cheap sunnies are usually all the same, but for only $15 retail, these silver frames are dope and durable.  Sunglasses are one of my favorite ways to express my mood and I love having tons of styles, so paying a lot for one pair doesn’t make sense.  Sunglass Warehouse offers a lot of oversize sunglasses styles.

Next to Thai Fresh is a bubble tea cafe, and we brought home drinks as well.  I have heard about durian for years now, and we always see the fruit at the Asian grocery, but I’d never tried it.  When I ordered a Durian Milk Tea at the counter, the cashier gave me a look of warning, asking if I’d had it before and know I like it.  Not one to back down, I continued with my order.  Even though I finished 1/4 of my smoothie at most, I’m glad I gave it a try.  The fruit itself tastes like a mild yogurt, but the smell is onion-y and throws off your taste buds.  Durian, I will try you again!

Paris Hilton’s Micro Pig

Oct 13, 2009 / 1 Comment

For the last few weeks I’ve been obsessed with micro pigs.  I stumbled upon the British trend, and have since been fantasizing about how a piglet would interact with my pup, and wondering if any Portland apartments would allow me to keep a pot-bellied pig.

I did some research on where to purchase teacup pigs in the United States.  It turns out Paris Hilton was conducting a very similar search – She landed at the same breeder I found right here Oregon!

Micro Pigs

Of course PETA is upset about Hilton’s purchase.  This makes little sense to me, as pet pigs seem like they would deter people from eating meat.  (One of my primary concerns, aside from cost of $4500 per piggie, was feeling guilty for my pork.)  Hilton’s pig, Princess Piglette, will arrive at the heiress’s home in 4-5 weeks.

PETA harshly said Paris treats her pets (she’s had chihuahuas, ferrets, and kinkajous) “as disposable as her friends and fiances.”

Paris Hilton Pets

According to the research I did, micro pigs are as proportionate (not dwarfs) and healthy as full-size pot-bellies, and can actually be more agile due to their smaller size.  Pigs are adaptable and said to be as smart and trainable as a pet dog, and very clean.  In my opinion, accusing Paris of being an unfit pet owner is absurd – Even if she were short on time to take care of an animal, she has a lot more staff and resources to care for a pet than most of us non-celebs.

The breeder Paris is buying from in Oregon sells a tiny pig breed called Royal Dandies.
