LOTD: Celebrity Sunglasses

10-19-2009 ** Categories: Look of the Day, Uncategorized /

On Saturday we picked up food from our latest grub obsession, Thai Fresh.  The weather was perfect – slightly chilly, but sunny, and I finally had an excuse to rock my SW Celebrity Sunglasses.  Cheap sunnies are usually all the same, but for only $15 retail, these silver frames are dope and durable.  Sunglasses are one of my favorite ways to express my mood and I love having tons of styles, so paying a lot for one pair doesn’t make sense.  Sunglass Warehouse offers a lot of oversize sunglasses styles.

Next to Thai Fresh is a bubble tea cafe, and we brought home drinks as well.  I have heard about durian for years now, and we always see the fruit at the Asian grocery, but I’d never tried it.  When I ordered a Durian Milk Tea at the counter, the cashier gave me a look of warning, asking if I’d had it before and know I like it.  Not one to back down, I continued with my order.  Even though I finished 1/4 of my smoothie at most, I’m glad I gave it a try.  The fruit itself tastes like a mild yogurt, but the smell is onion-y and throws off your taste buds.  Durian, I will try you again!

Paris Hilton’s Micro Pig

10-13-2009 ** Categories: Uncategorized / Tags: ,

For the last few weeks I’ve been obsessed with micro pigs.  I stumbled upon the British trend, and have since been fantasizing about how a piglet would interact with my pup, and wondering if any Portland apartments would allow me to keep a pot-bellied pig.

I did some research on where to purchase teacup pigs in the United States.  It turns out Paris Hilton was conducting a very similar search – She landed at the same breeder I found right here Oregon!

Micro Pigs

Of course PETA is upset about Hilton’s purchase.  This makes little sense to me, as pet pigs seem like they would deter people from eating meat.  (One of my primary concerns, aside from cost of $4500 per piggie, was feeling guilty for my pork.)  Hilton’s pig, Princess Piglette, will arrive at the heiress’s home in 4-5 weeks.

PETA harshly said Paris treats her pets (she’s had chihuahuas, ferrets, and kinkajous) “as disposable as her friends and fiances.”

Paris Hilton Pets

According to the research I did, micro pigs are as proportionate (not dwarfs) and healthy as full-size pot-bellies, and can actually be more agile due to their smaller size.  Pigs are adaptable and said to be as smart and trainable as a pet dog, and very clean.  In my opinion, accusing Paris of being an unfit pet owner is absurd – Even if she were short on time to take care of an animal, she has a lot more staff and resources to care for a pet than most of us non-celebs.

The breeder Paris is buying from in Oregon sells a tiny pig breed called Royal Dandies.

Glowelle Beauty Drink

10-01-2009 ** Categories: Product Reviews / Tags: , ,

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been trying out Glowelle Beauty Drink.  Glowelle comes in Pomegranate Lychee or Raspberry Jasmine, of which I  sampled the latter.  A 30-day kit arrived at my door in pretty pink-and-orange packaging and I quickly scanned the included literature before emptying a drink packet, or “stick”, into a 16 oz water bottle.  Glowelle recommends drinking one stick daily as part of your beauty routine to look and feel better from the inside out.

PROS for Glowelle include the nutrition (vitamins and antioxidants including Vitamin E and EGCG), and that each packet is only 50 calories.  I also love the packaging.  7 or 30-day drink mix packs come in chic and colorful reusable boxes, and single packets can easily be tossed in your handbag for on-the-go and sharing with friends.

Reading reviews by other beauty bloggers, I seemed to be in the minority, as I love the taste of Glowelle – it’s bitter but addicting.  I like the grainy texture, and especially love the mix stirred into a glass of orange juice.  It seems to control appetite as well.

As much more acne-prone than wrinkle-prone, it’s hard for me to gauge elasticity (I’m also only 23!), but I have felt that my skin has been more glowing and noticeably less oily.

Glowelle Beauty Drink

CONS for Glowelle begin and end with the price.  $112 for 30 days is about the equivalent of buying a large smoothie every day.  It’s kind of a lot to pay for a drink mix.  The price can be explained by the prestigious ingredients, including 50mg of CoQ10 per serving, but I’d be willing to pay more if it included some caffeine.  Along with drink mix, you can also purchase bottles of the stuff, but it will cost you $42 for just six 8 oz containers.  Not very economical, but the formula is sold at upscale department stores and swagged out to celebrities.

Whether or not you try out Glowelle depends on your vitamin regimen and your income.  If you are replacing several bottles of vitamins and beauty products with this drink, it might make sense to shell out the cash, but I can’t imagine it’s really more beneficial than a healthy diet.  As pampered as this drink made me feel, $100/month for a supplement is sadly not in my budget.
